EMSELLA: Help with incontinence, bladder weakness and a weak pelvic floor

EMSELLA: Strengthen the muscles of the pelvic floor in just a few weeks using the latest technology (HIFEM). Scientifically confirmed. 95% patient satisfaction*.

The patented EMSELLA® from BTL helps with incontinence, bladder weakness and other problems caused by a weak pelvic floor, for example after pregnancy or in old age.

The EMSELLA treatment can help many men and women who suffer from pelvic floor problems due to age, pregnancy or medical interventions.

This is because the EMSELLA® was developed by BTL® to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles in a particularly effective way. HIFEM technology, which boosts the muscles, is used for this purpose. It can be used to noticeably improve various discomforts caused by sagging pelvic floor muscles, such as incontinence and bladder weakness, as well as sexual dysfunction. The EMSELLA also supports the recovery of the pelvic floor muscles after pregnancies and prostate operations.

The pelvic floor in particular is difficult to train and most exercises are complicated to perform. This is exactly where the patented technology of the EMSELLA comes in. While you sit comfortably, the device generates targeted electromagnetic waves that trigger intensive muscle contractions in the pelvic floor without you having to do anything.
These contractions tone the muscles during the 30-minute treatment. After just a few applications, 85% of patients notice an improvement in their general well-being* and a reduction in the typical symptoms of incontinence, bladder weakness or sexual dysfunction.

This makes the FDA-approvable and CE-certified EMSELLA an effective, pain-free alternative to traditional treatments for incontinence, bladder weakness and other problems that can be caused by a weakened pelvic floor.

How does a treatment with the EMSELLA work?

Treatment with EMSELLA is simple and uncomplicated for you as a patient. After the information has been provided, you sit fully clothed on the EMSELLA chair in our practice. Once you have found the optimal sitting position, your 30-minute treatment session begins. You will feel intense but pain-free muscle contractions that strengthen your pelvic floor muscles. During the treatment, you can listen to music or read something. Usually several sessions over a few weeks are necessary to achieve optimal results. The treatment requires no recovery time and you can resume all everyday activities immediately afterwards.

For whom is it advisable to strengthen the pelvic floor with the EMSELLA?

The EMSELLA method is suitable for all people who suffer from a weakened pelvic floor and are looking for a simple and uncomplicated solution to be able to enjoy their everyday life more easily again.

This applies in particular to women and men who are dependent on aids such as inserts for various forms of incontinence and bladder weakness, but which cannot offer them satisfactory security.

We have listed common areas of indication here:

For Ladies

  • Stress incontinence: Involuntary loss of urine during physical exertion, coughing, sneezing or laughing.
  • Urge incontinence: Sudden, strong urge to leak urine with uncontrolled loss of urine.
  • Postpartum pelvic floor weakness: After childbirth to support the regeneration of the pelvic floor muscles.
  • Weak pelvic floor muscles: With age or due to predisposition, often associated with disorders such as bladder weakness and sexual dysfunction.
  • Menopause: Support for incontinence problems and other symptoms caused by hormonal changes.
  • Sexual dysfunction: Improving sexual sensation by strengthening the pelvic floor muscles.

For Gents

  • After prostate surgery: Problems with holding urine, often after surgical removal of the prostate.
  • Stress incontinence: Involuntary loss of urine during physical exertion, coughing, sneezing or laughing.
  • Weak pelvic floor muscles: In older age or due to other medical conditions that lead to bladder weakness.
  • Sexual dysfunction: Support for erectile dysfunction and improving sexual performance by strengthening the pelvic floor muscles.

What technology does EMSCULPT neo use?

The EMSELLA is designed in the shape of a chair so that treatment can be carried out comfortably while seated. Underneath the seat, it operates with HIFEM technology, in which high-intensity electromagnetic waves are emitted specifically onto the muscles of the pelvic floor.

This generates intense muscular contractions very quickly and at short intervals. The mode of action is similar to training, but the contractions are significantly stronger and more precise than those that could be achieved by tightening the muscles yourself.

This creates a profound muscle growth that strengthens and tones the pelvic floor. It also stimulates blood flow to the muscles and increases their volume.

How often should treatment with the EMSELLA be carried out?

According to studies*, the best results are achieved when the treatment is carried out for 30 minutes twice a week over a period of 3 to 5 weeks. This always depends on the initial situation, the physical conditions and the desired treatment goal.

As with all muscle training, it is important for successful treatment that the training intervals are carried out without long breaks. This is because it is only through the regular sequence of training stimulus and recovery phase that so-called supercompensation occurs, during which the muscles grow.

If necessary, the treatment can be refreshed or repeated after some time.

Does EMSELLA treatment have side effects?

In general, there are hardly any known side effects as the treatment is well tolerated. Possible side effects include, for example, slight muscle soreness in the pelvic region similar to that experienced after an intensive workout and, in rare cases, slight redness or temporary swelling in the treated area.

At this point we would like to point out that, according to the manufacturer's instructions, the EMSELLA is not approved for people with metallic implants in the pelvic region (such as artificial joints, plates, screws, but also pacemakers, etc.) or with metallic body jewelry, metallic contraceptives (copper IUD) or pregnant women.

Successful application of the EMSELLA

Treatments with the EMSELLA have proven effective for various physical restrictions caused by a weak pelvic floor. They often occur in connection with ageing, surgery or after (several) births, but can also have other causes. Here are some examples where the EMSELLA has proven its worth.

During menopause

Age and hormonal changes during the menopause can weaken the pelvic floor muscles. This is why many women experience urinary incontinence. The EMSELLA helps - without hormone therapy - to effectively strengthen the muscles of the pelvic floor and thus regain lost quality of life.

Bladder problems

With increasing age, the pelvic floor muscles lose strength and elasticity, which makes bladder control more difficult. An enlarged prostate exerts additional pressure on the bladder. The EMSELLA offers an effective and comfortable solution for men whose well-being and everyday activities are restricted as a result.

After births

During pregnancy, the additional weight and pressure put a strain on the pelvic floor. It is further weakened by the strong stretching during childbirth. This can lead to stress and urge incontinence as well as sexual dysfunction, which can be remedied by specifically strengthening the pelvic floor.

Why a pelvic floor treatment in a dermatologist's practice?

Through the very successful use of the EMSculpt neo®, the most modern device for improving the figure and fitness through muscle building (+25%) and fat reduction (-30%), we discovered the amazing effect of electromagnetic waves for targeted muscle building and improving the metabolism.

It is also about effectively strengthening the core of the body, known as core-to-floor training. This exercise, which is very popular in the USA, uses electromagnetic waves to strengthen the large muscles in the abdomen and bottom together with the pelvic floor. The EMSELLA does the latter and can also alleviate the problems associated with a weak pelvic floor. In the context of core-to-floor training, some patients report that they experience an additional strengthening of the lower back muscles.

Please click on your questions about EMSELLA to open the answer. If you have any further questions, please contact us, we will be happy to help you.

How does the EMSELLA work?

The EMSELLA generates electromagnetic waves that cause intense muscle contractions in the hard-to-train pelvic floor region. These contractions are stronger than those that can be achieved by consciously tensing the muscles yourself. This is why the muscles grow faster.

What does an EMSELLA treatment cost?

The individual treatment costs between €120 and €160.

How often should the EMSELLA treatment be carried out?

A typical treatment plan consists of 6-8 sessions, which are carried out twice a week over a period of about three to four weeks. It is important to keep to the intervals.

What is HIFEM®?

HIFEM® is a technology that is used in medicine. The abbreviation HIFEM stands for "High Intensity Focused Electro-Magnetic", which means "high-intensity electromagnetic impulses". The treatment works by generating an electromagnetic field that is transmitted to the muscles, causing contractions that follow the high intensity of the electromagnetic waves. In this way, the muscles can be strengthened and fat reduced. HIFEM is suitable for deep stimulation of the muscles in the abdomen, buttocks, arms and legs.

Does the EMSELLA have FDA approval in the USA?

The EMSELLA is approved as a medical device by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This authority reports to the US Department of Health and Human Services and monitors the safety and efficacy of drugs, medical devices and food.
